R.A.D.

     -Year One-

The beginning of 2004 marked the start of a new program for the Walpole Police Department.  Officers John Carmichael and Jaclyn Hazeldine were trained as R.A.D. (Rape Aggression Defense) instructors.  With their new knowledge and training, they began to hold R.A.D. classes for Walpole residents that were interested.  These classes, consisting of four (4) three-hour blocks, were hugely successful.  There were so many requests for space, and good reviews by those who attended the class, that we had to double our number of instructors.
Recently, Officers Chris Mackenzie and Dave Haddigan became certified R.A.D. instructors, and are going to add to an already outstanding program.  Now, with double the instructors and double the equipment, the Walpole Police Department R.A.D. Instructors are looking forward to starting another round of classes.

-What is R.A.D.?-

The Rape Aggression Defense System is a program of realistic self-defense tactics and techniques for women. R.A.D. is a comprehensive, women-only course that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on defense training.

-Do you need any prior experience to attend this class?-

No.  this program is designed for the average woman with no previous experience or background in physical skills training.

-About the class?-

The program runs in four (4) three-hour classes taught by our certified R.A.D. Instructors, all Walpole Police Officers, and will be closed to those not enrolled.  The program is held here in town, in a private classroom environment, and has been held at Bird Middle School and Blackburn Hall in the past.   While the class is funded largely by the generous donations of local businesses, we ask for a donation of $10 for the program, all of which is put back into the program in the form of equipment, student materials, and refreshments.
