In the year 2000, the Walpole Police Department selected 8 officers to serve as the department's honor guard. Led by Patrolman Steve Eaton, the members include officers: Jim Dolan, Steve Foley, John Carmichael, Chris Mackenzie, Bill Madden, Brian Becker and Tim Sullivan.
The honor guard was created to represent the department at police funerals, parades, and other ceremonial occasions. Tragically, a police officer falls in the line of duty every 53 hours in the United Sates. The Walpole Police Department Honor Guard was created to respectfully pay tribute to these fallen hero's by attending their services throughout the State. They are also proud to march in ceremonial parades, such as the Veteran's Day Parade.
The Walpole Police Honor Guard was proud to represent the town on the opening night of the 2004 Paw Sox season. Along with the Walpole Fire Department Honor Guard, and dozens of other honor guards from around the State, they marched onto the field to kick off the opening night celebrations. Representing the police department above, are Ptl's Eaton, Carmichael, Dolan, Mackenzie and Madden.
