The Walpole Police Department currently employs 5 civilian dispatchers who cover the dispatch area full time, working all shifts.
The dispatch area, and the officers who work there, are a vital link in the chain for a police department. Dispatchers handle the phone calls from the public, and by being positioned in the lobby of the station, act as a receptionist for those walking in. Dispatchers then take the calls they receive, and distribute them to the appropriate police units in the field, then log all of the activity.
In addition to receiving, dispatching, and logging calls, Walpole Police Dispatchers are certified E911 operators. The Walpole Police Department handles all 911 phone calls for the Town, from their 2 operator stations within the dispatch area. Also within dispatch are computers with mobile links to our cruisers, and a link to the State Registry of Motor Vehicles.
Dispatch truly is the hub of the department, and we are happy to have 5 outstanding individuals holding down the fort for us.
