Traffic Detours

Check this section for information about roadways that are under construction.  You can find out when and where long term work will be done, and how to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam.

-Flood Detours-

Heavy rains last week caused many unexpected detours as Public Works, Fire and Police personal were forced to act quickly to flooded streets, fallen trees and downed power lines.

We greatly appreciate the understanding of the public when it comes to these types of emergencies.  It is impossible to predict when and where a power line will fall, or when a sudden surge of rain will over power the drainage, however, last week the DPW and all personnel involved did an excellent job setting up detour routes.
Despite the detours set up, several individuals decided to test the depths by driving around them and getting stuck.  We ask that all motorists obey the traffic routes during these types of storms.  We understand that it is an inconvenience, but detours are set up for your protection.
In addition, many times officers are forced to set up emergency detours, using their cruisers, in such times as downed power lines laying in the road.  While this type of unforeseen emergency doesn't allow for a proper detour, like the one you see above, officers will be happy to direct you around the danger area safely.
Again, please remember that these types of weather related emergencies are very taxing on local resources.  Please help us out by following the detours that are set up.

-Main & Spring-

Location:  Railroad Bridge near Main Street at the intersection of Spring Street.

Traffic Routes:  Luckily this area has wide traffic lanes that can accommodate the passage of 2 lanes, despite the construction, however, southbound and northbound traffic lanes will be adjusted as work continues.

Avoid the Jam :  While complete traffic interruption should be rare, the traffic lane will be altered to allow for the construction.  Please be aware that the traffic lanes will shift in this area, and be prepared to adjust accordingly.

-Gillette Stadium-

Time:  Changes are in effect for one (1) hour before the start of an event, and one (1) hour after the event concludes.

Location:  The following intersections along Route 1 are altered during events.  North St. (Foxboro), Pine St. (Walpole), and Old Post Rd. (Sharon).

Traffic Routes:  Intersections involved are closed to ALL cross traffic, and ONLY allow North bound and South bound travel.  This mean that you can not cross over Route 1 at any of these intersections.  In addition, if your are traveling on Route 1, you will be restricted from turning left at these intersections.  Traffic approaching these intersections from a cross street will be forced to turn right only.  Traffic approaching these intersections from on Route 1 will be forced to turn right, or proceed straight.

Avoid the Jam :  When 70,000 people are trying to get out of the same place, the best advice is to stay away.  Plan ahead, and if you are not attending the event, steer clear of the area.
