On the Third of July, Walpole celebrates the independence of our Nation, by holding it's popular parade and fireworks display. A staple in Walpole, our celebration has been going strong for over 40 years, and has grown into quit a spectacle.
Below, you will find all the information you need to enjoy the event. Please be aware that our celebration is attended by not only citizens of Walpole, but hundreds of families from around the State. To help everyone have the best time possible, we ask that you follow some of the very simple driving and parking instructions listed below.
The Fire Engine Parade starts at the East Walpole Fire Station at 6:00pm sharp. The parade proceeds down Washington St. and turns Right, onto Short St., and straight onto East St. The parade then follows East St. all the way, right into the center of Walpole, where it goes through the center for the final stretch.
Immediately following the parade, there is a celebration held in the center, behind the fire station. There is live music, souvenirs and refreshments.
The fireworks start at 9:30pm, launched from the area of the center pool on School St., they can be enjoyed from anywhere in the center.
This event has become so popular in recent years that parking has become a little tight. The Walpole Police Department strongly advises that everyone attending the event take extra care when planning their evening:
- Carpool whenever possible.
- Park on the end of town closest to your home. If you live in North Walpole , park on the North end of the center.
- If possible, use alternate means like walking or biking.
- If you are not attending the event avoid the center completely.
To ensure the safety of pedestrians in the area, a small section of the center will be CLOSED. There will be No Parking on:
- Stone St. from Main to Diamond
-
School St. from Common to East.
At 4:30pm these sections of roadway will be closed and police officers will be stationed to aid traffic. Any vehicles parked in these areas after this time will be removed, and there will be no through traffic allowed, so that those enjoying the event can safely traverse this area.
Please consult the map if you have any questions.
